This course will immerse you in the origins, evolution, and spread of rock, pop, and hip- hop. Born in the U.S.A. but adopted and shaped by the world, the music and musicians of these popular genres dominate the global stage. We’ll talk about the history behind the music, and how the music has shaped our history. From the origins of rock and roll to Beyonce and beyond, you’ll dig to the roots (and blues) of your favourite music to learn why you can’t help but sing along. If you love music, this is your course!

3. DJ MUSIC MIXING

DJ music mixing is learning how to beat-match two song files to create a continuous stream of music for a dance party. All successful DJs have learned this technique first and you can too! Students work in pairs on two modern DJ tables allowing up to four students at a time to work.

4. EXPLORING THE WORLD

In this course, we will utilize a variety of geography games, interactive activities, and online adventure learning platforms with the goal of developing curiosity and interest as explorers. We will develop a topic to research, carry out our research in and around Leysin, and share our findings with other adventure learners on the website, we-explore.com.

5. APP WRITING

Students Have you ever had an idea for an app? Making an app is a combination of coding and visual design. This course will introduce you to the process of making an app, from the visual design involved in creating the interface, to the code that makes everything work underneath. You do not need coding experience to take this course, but you will leave with lots of it. While we will not build the next Instagram in this course, you will leave with enough experience to know what goes on behind the scenes of all apps and possibly some inspiration to learn more.

6. FRENCH IMMERSION

Students who take part in French Immersion will spend the morning academic learning practicing French language and learning about French culture. Through activities, games, and classroom instruction students will develop an appreciation for the language and develop their confidence in speaking French. French Immersion students participate in morning field trips as a part of the program to help promote their practical application of language skills.

7. CATCHING AN INVISIBLE KILLER: PANDEMIC

I hope you’ve had your shots, because this course will expose you to the worst killers in history—microbes. Focus on the deadly viruses and bacteria that have plagued humans since the beginning. From the Black Death to the Spanish Flu to new threats that travel as fast as we do, microbes have shaped our past and continue to threaten our future. You’ll examine pandemics old and new, learning about both the diseases, the reactions to their spread, and their cures—if any. Now, in the age of globalization, microbes have frightening opportunities to infect the global population—quickly. What are scientists, public health experts, and governments doing to stop the next invisible killer?
